Mark Bryan’s remarkable musical journey began while growing in the Washington, DC area, attending shows at Landover, MD’s famed Capital Centre by Elvis Presley, John Denver, and Van Halen. Countless more shows followed, all of which inspired him to pursue his own musical dreams. Co-founded by Bryan in 1986 while attending the University of South Carolina, Hootie & the Blowfish went on to become one of the most beloved bands of all time, with sales of over 26M in the US alone including such record-setting releases as 1994’s 2x RIAA Diamond-certified blockbuster, Cracked Rear View, and classic top 10 hit singles like “Hold My Hand,” “Let Her Cry,” and the #1 pop smash, “Only Wanna Be With You,” all co-written by Bryan. In 2019, Hootie & The Blowfish reconvened after a decade-plus hiatus, uniting once again for a sixth studio album and an ongoing series of sold-out tours which have seen them performing to a legion of devoted fans that now encompasses multiple generations.

Prolific by nature, Bryan has maintained his own non-stop creative pace through it all, producing an array of other artists, playing solo dates across the US, and releasing a string of well-received solo albums including 2024’s critically acclaimed Popped, available now via Vere Music HERE. A free-wheeling collection spanning rootsy Americana and folk ballads to Caribbean-flavored pop, doo wop, and full-on heavy rockers, the album serves as a captivatingly confident display for the Charleston, SC-based artist’s well-traveled muse, rich with dexterous musicality, crisp production skills, and characteristically unaffected songcraft.

In addition to his own creative musical pursuits, Bryan is also the host of Mark Bryan’s Alt Vault, an hour-long weekly radio show featuring deep dives into the alternative rock tracks that made the genre, airing Saturdays from 7:00-8:00 pm (ET) exclusively on Annapolis, MD’s WRNR 93.5 FM.
